As part of my efforts to #PayItForward, I run a network aimed at helping older PMETs gain reemployment. I do this because I know firsthand the challenges of seeking employment when you are older.
As technological disruptions impact economies around the world, older PMETs will begin to be pink-slipped. In Singapore, while our economy has weathered much of the storm, retrenchments will continue to be inevitable for some industries.
The hardest hit will be older PMETs who have developed deep expertise in domains that are now obsolete. Finding new employment at the same salary and in the same industry will be tough, if not impossible.
To survive, older employees who were once in positions of authority may now take on jobs in positions where they find themselves reporting to people old enough to be their children. While making the switch is not without challenge, it is nonetheless not impossible.
