Member-only story
If you are active on social media, you will not be mistaken if you believe that life is hard. On Instagram and Facebook, everyone is living the high life. Parties with beautiful people, exotic holidays, amazing mansions, fast cars, branded goods, and the best foods. Everyone’s life is better than yours.
But the reality is far from this. On social media, everyone is ‘keeping up with the Joneses,’ and what is shared online is carefully curated. No one shares how sucky their lives are. The more honest amongst us edit our status updates to flatter ourselves, while the less honest stage and even fake status updates to mislead.
I am not here to tell you that life is easy. You are not that naive. I am here to tell you that while life is not easy, neither is it as hard as you are being misled to believe. While there are definitely those who truly live the high life, the reality is that the majority are average folks like you and me, who live normal boring lives.
So stop comparing your own life to the life you see others “living” on social media. Comparing what you think you don’t have, will only depress you. But if you consider the truth that everything on social media is an illusion, then you will not be so depressed. In fact, you may even feel that you are living a better life than others.
In short, life only sucks if you let it. Don’t let social media lead you down the rabbit hole.
