Business Transformation

At a conference on business transformation, an organization shared how it had transformed its business to be the best in class. After I got over the initial awe of what they had accomplished in such a short amount of time, I realized that what they did was not revolutionary. In fact, everything they did was common and already being done in many other organizations.

As I reflected on this seeming contradiction, it dawned on me that what separated them from the other organizations goes deeper than having the right people, process, and technology. The ‘secret sauce’ that pulled everything together was (a) a shared vision that synergized and inspired; (b) an organizational culture that turned the vision into reality; and (c) having effective leadership at all levels of the organization to make things happen.

Organizations that only focus on the individual parts, will soon realize that the “sum” will be less than the value of the individual parts combined if they do not focus on building the intangible secret sauce.
