Leaders are not gods
It is often said that there are no bad soldiers, only bad leaders. The implication of this statement is that leaders can persuade, change, and influence anyone to be better.
This is half-true!
Change, sustained change, can only come from within. Hence, even as leaders take direct responsibility for the people in their care, there are limits to what leaders can do to change a person. In essence, the teacher will appear when the student is ready.
As leaders, we must accept the limitations of our abilities and not feel like failures as somethings are beyond our control. All we can do is to lead to the best of our abilities. Change will happen when the person we lead is ready.
Something to think about this weekend.
