The hard truth is that in a VUCA environment, quality decisions do not equal quality outcomes as luck plays an outsized role in our success.
As leaders, we need to understand that our decisions often cannot guarantee the results we want. This is because the quality decisions we make, can result in bad outcomes. Just as the poor decisions we make can result in good outcomes. Hence, judging the quality of our decisions by the outcome is not helpful.
My point?
As leaders, we need to trust the decision-making process and our ability to make decisions. In the event that a decision results in a bad outcome, there is probably nothing wrong with the decision-making process, and the fault very likely does not lie with you.
