My Investment Journey with TSLY
Background
As part of my retirement income portfolio, I purchased 100 shares of the ETF TSLY in July 2024 at USD18.64 per share. Since then, there have been two market sell-offs and one rebound. TSLY closed on 4 Oct 2024 at USD12.71.
Looking back this was a mistake as I purchased TSLY at its peak. A better approach would have been to accumulate shares in smaller, regular batches, allowing me to dollar-cost average and minimize the impact of market volatility.
Update: Month Three of Twelve
Today I received my third dividend payout of USD109.49 and TSLY closed at USD12.71. TSLY’s TTM is now 60.62% which means — if it remains constant — I can expect to receive total dividends of USD770.48 over the next 12 months. Summarised below is my investment to date in TSLY:
Still not worried yet ….
While TSLY has lost 31.8% of its share price since August, I am still not yet worried as I consider this a paper loss. My optimism stems from my understanding that the drop in share price is due to Tesla’s inherent volatility. The covered call strategy employed by TSLY is relatively low risk provided the share does not collapse.
