It is unfortunate that age discrimination exists in the job market. However, as job seekers, it is essential for us to recognize that value transcends age. Employers operate within economic constraints and prioritize hiring employees who bring the highest value to their organizations. If as a senior professional, we can only offer the same value as a fresh graduate, it is understandable that employers may lean towards hiring the latter.
Rather than lamenting the challenges associated with aging in the hiring process, I encourage senior professionals to reframe the issue and focus on increasing their value in the job market. By enhancing our skills, knowledge, and expertise, we can position ourselves as valuable assets to potential employers. Here are some steps we can take:
