Raeesah Khan: How the PAP got Blindsided by their own Committee of Privileges

Criminal referral of Pritam Singh and Faisal Manap to the public prosecutor

“This is why you should never start a fight without first thinking through how it might end.”

In the PAP’s bid to hold former WP MP Raeesah Khan accountable for lying in Parliament, they convened a Committee of Privilege (CoP) to investigate the matter. Unfortunately, the PAP did not consider (or expect) that Ms Khan’s lies in Parliament would be a coordinated affair led by the senior leadership of the WP.

When testimony provided by WP chief and Leader of the Opposition, Pritam Singh, and WP vice-chair Faisal Manap became vague, evasive, and deceptive, it was clear that Pritam and Faisal’s were complicit in Ms Khan’s lies. Having convened the CoP, and released full recordings of the proceedings, the PAP now has no choice but to refer the matter to the public prosecutor for possible criminal charges. The option of not referring the matter to the public prosecutor is an untenable position for the PAP as remaining quiet is a tacit agreement that it is okay to lie under oath.
