This one one-minute rule can change your life

This one one-minute rule can change your life. The one-minute rule aims to eliminate procrastination by pushing you to accomplish small tasks. The rule, in essence, is to complete any task immediately, if it will take you one minute or less to complete it.

Living according to this ‘one one-minute rule’ will fundamentally change your life as it leverages the concept of cumulative actions where many small actions compounded over time add up to one large action.

So, instead of planning to do one large task “next week when you have more time” (which will likely never happen), you take small actions today, tomorrow, and the days after. Added together, these many small actions will equal, but in all likelihood exceed, the impact of that one large task you were planning to do.

The power of the ‘one one-minute rule’ can also be seen in the natural laws of physics.

INERTIA. According to Newton’s 1st Law of Motion — every object will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled to change its state by the action of an external force — it is hard to get started. The larger the task, the greater the inertia and the greater the force required to get started. Starting small is key as it is easy.
