The Math of Success ….

Doing the math can help you achieve career success

I did the math for an old friend recently. She is happy at her current job, is considered a talent by the organization, and works twice as hard as the others in her office. Unfortunately, her immediate boss is far from retirement and there are no higher appointments for her.

My friend had received a call from a headhunter and was wondering if she should move. While the pay would be better, her reluctance stems from the fact that she would need to reestablish herself at her new workplace.

To help her decide, I shared with her the Math of Success and the reality of #4. According to the math, she should move on. This is because success at work takes more than just talent and hard work, it also takes opportunities. And, this means being at the right place at the right time.

Interestingly the importance of time and space cannot be underestimated. If time and space are in your favor (and you are a hard worker with some talent), you will have a higher chance of success than a more talented person who works just as hard but is not in the right place at the right time.
