Member-only story
“what must I share” VS “what can I not share” ….
The latter mindset is what separates high-performing teams from the dysfunctional ones. Information flow is critical for team performance as the free flow of information allows team members to rapidly and organically self-organize. This allows for innovation, efficiency, and avoids unnecessary duplication.
Team members who hoard information hinder team performance through their use of information as a power play to: (a) control others by making them dependent; and (b) undermine others by setting them up for failure.
As leaders, we need to identify the information hoarders in our team and weed them out. This is because their behavior not only hinders team performance but also destroys team cohesion by engendering a culture of mistrust.
Teams that operate from the mindset of sharing as much as they can, will always outperform teams that only share what they must.
