Member-only story
You are not alone!
The specter of mental wellness is real. Managing daily routines, coping with emotions like fear and anxiety, and dealing with challenges affect everyone differently.
While the majority can cope, there will be those who can't. Of those who can’t, some will recognize the signs they need help and get it, while others will be oblivious to the signs and will be overcome by it. It is therefore important that we become our "brother's keepers" and pay attention to the health and emotional well-being of friends and family.
If you spot the following signs, it indicates that your friend or family member may not be coping and need help:
- struggling to work, parent, or upkeep the house.
- unable to handle stress with normal coping strategies.
- difficulty maintaining a healthy appetite or experiencing significant weight loss
- using drugs or alcohol to cope.
- engaging in risk-taking behaviors.
- unable to focus.
- sleeplessness.
- lack of interest in activities they once enjoyed.
- panic attacks.
- fear of being around others, even children or family.
- mistrust of people they normally confide in or counted on.
- a sense of guilt and unworthiness.
- restlessness or agitation.
- anger and violent outbursts.
