You are overqualified ….

How Senior PMETs Can Win the Right Role

It’s one of the most common (and frustrating) experiences for senior PMETs. You apply for a role that you can do with your eyes closed, and yet… no callback. Or worse, you’re told you’re “too senior” or “not the right fit.”

But let’s be clear, being overqualified is not the problem. The real issue is how you position yourself. Recruiters and hiring managers worry that you’ll get bored, won’t adapt, or will leave the moment something better comes along.

So how do you beat the bias?

Here’s how to tailor your CV and interview strategy to address these unspoken concerns — and land the role you actually want.

Step 1: Reframe the Narrative in Your Resume

Lead with Relevance, Not Seniority

Instead of stacking your resume with impressive titles and long job scopes, prioritize what’s relevant to the role. Focus on the specific skills, experiences, and achievements that match the job description — even if they come from earlier in your career.

Do: Highlight how you’ve led successful marketing campaigns.
Don’t: Emphasize how you used to lead a regional team of 50 unless the role requires that.
